I'm spoiled. I fall asleep to the sound of waves on the beach every night.

I tend to have the TV on in my bedroom and when i can feel myself drifting off i turn the TV off. Mind you sometimes i am known to fall asleep on the lounge watching TV as well.

I prefer nothing at all, but my wife insists we either have the fan running or her white noise maker is running.

My husband has to have a quiet room, but I need noise. Here's what I have going when I go to bed: ceiling fan, baby monitor, and nature sounds alarm clock with either birds or waves playing. My husband is deaf in one hear, so he just lays on his good ear so he doesn't have to listen to all my "noise". Oh, I don't like it, but after 3 minutes of my husband being in bed, I have snoring to listen to.

Complete silence and darkness .. the room has to be cool (no matter the season)so that I can snuggle under the blankets.

I have the TV on very soft with a timer. It also comes on without any sound in the morning, and that wakes me up. I also have a Marsana "white noise" machine that is GREAT and is very helpful for keeping outside noises almost non existent unless they are VERY close and VERY loud.

unfortunatly i live in an apartment so i have to listen to my nasty upstairs neighbors having sex all the time, the teenager below me with his loud music and his puppy barking all night, and there is a hallway next to my room so i hear people coming and going. i have earplugs now so the sounds are drowned a little.

It changes every time I move to a new house. When I lived in Maine, I got used to hearing seagulls and the breeze coming in from the beach through the windows. In Memphis, it was complete silence (suburbs). In this house, it's the cars on the busy road we're beside. There's not one particular object in my home, though.

My Oreck air cleaner. It has a humming sound plus I go to bet with the sensation that the air in the room is getting cleaned while I fall asleep and will stay clean all night. It gives peace of mind...

I HAVE to fall asleep to the show Law & Order!! (at 11:00 pm) A little odd I know but if the show isn't on I just sorta stay a wake. I have no idea what i'm going to do if it ever goes off the air. lol.

Gotta have a fan running anytime I am sleeping. If the power goes off while I am asleep I will wake up instantly.

Music. I can no longer sleep without it.. I also end up falling asleep to police sirens and the girl next door kicking the crap out of my wall because she is having a tantrum at gone 4 in the morning for no apparent reason. Gotta love city life!

I made MP3 files of episodes from shows British shows like Blackadder, Are You Being Served?, and Open All Hours. I play them on low volume with a one hour timer. Usually does the trick. The most important thing is that I listen to something that I'm familiar with and definitely nothing I never heard before.

Anything with a low noise to it. I'm not sure why this is, but I hate it when you can't hear anything. I like to always have something to listen to as I am falling asleep.

The best thing to fall asleep to is a thunderstorm or rain. If it's not raining, then my alarm clock has a white noise thing that works wonderfully.

I have a "white noise" maker that I listen to, after 30-40 minutes of watching old comedy TV show reruns on TV. It drowns out all outside noise, no matter what it is, even the garbage truck on garbage pickup morning.

When it's naturally quiet, I fall asleep easily. But I love to hear the rain or wind outside the house on a stormy night, too. I hae fallen asleep in a truck at a truckstop, however it's not my choice!
