Because you loosened it up for them!
-
Possibly because you're asking a man to help? As sexist as it might sound, they are generally stronger.
-
All your attempts have warmed the lid up, and while you were asking for help it expanded just enough to break the seal and let air in. All it needed was that extra minute of delay.

"You loosened it for me" is kind of true. As you work at it, you use up energy, becoming a little weaker as you struggle. Also that energy is being transferred as heat to the lid, causing it to expand slightly. It takes a second or two for the process, but by the time you hand it off to someone, it's loosened a bit. Like running it under warm water.

That's what they call, in the UK, Sod's Law.

It was only your superior loosening skills and finesse that prepared it to be opened my the other person;-)

U can "Release" the Vacuum by poking a small hole in the "Lid". To re-use, put tape over hole. It's the "Vacuum" that makes it hard to open, so use an "Ice Pick" or old fashioned "Can Opener" (with the "Point")& let the guys think U've become "Strong" overnight!!! John

Reading through these comments I'm not going to repeat them but i was taught to use the handle of a knife and tap a few times round the edge of the lid. This in turn loosens it and ever since I've never needed to ask for help!

you are weak
-
You probable weakened the seal a little bit making it easier for the next person who tries.
-
We are stronger, you know. But, you were probably getting "tired" as you kept going and a fresh hand could then do the job.
-
Because you loosened it for the next person.

Well if you asked me, I'd be able to do it because I work out pretty extensively. I wanted to join Pararescue which has pretty stringent requirements for awhile. Also some people fail to open tightly sealed jars because they stop trying as soon as their fingers begin to hurt. They pause until it stops hurting, I just ignore it and twist harder, it's never failed me.
