  • It is unlikely to cause any damage since transmission fluid is also a crude-based petroleum fluid. But since transmission fluid is a light viscosity, you may want to keep on eye on your fluid level and replace with the appropriate weight oil (such as 5W-30 or 10W-30) as soon as possible.
  • it wont hurt ytour motor on older cars i know not sure about newer i used it to free sticky valves in my 85 diplomat because of the high detergency! i do this all the time and know other mechanics who swear by it ! do not fill the whole crankcase though it is not motor oil i only replace one quart per change as needed for my old cars ! transmission fluid is a oil just not the right viscosity for a motor!
  • From A Mech.: I STRONGLY recommend that you NOT run the engine until you drain the oil pan, & replace the oil filter, and install a new filter and the proper oil. Trans. oil is MUCH too 'thin' for an engine. P.S.: the suggestions re: adding a SLIGHT amt. of trans. oil to the engine (ie, no more than 20%) to 'free-up' lifters, etc. is a good one, but using MARVEL MYSTERY OIL (again, no more than 20%) is what I would recommend to 'clean & free-up'. Good Luck!
