  • Easier to pronounce, for a start.
  • Steven Segal. No really its because jujutsu is an old martial art and akido, judo, etc. are more mordern and effective.
  • Because Aikido as practiced by many today is a watered-down version that emphasises a more pacifistic approach to the point of its own detriment. People are more comfortable learning an MA that makes them feel "enlightened" than one that teaches them to fight with intent to win. REAL aikido is not to be trifled with... it's just hard to find.
  • Daito Ryu is the combat form of empty hand fighting that was used by the samurai of old. Its effectiveness was and is without question, the higest ranking samurai learned this art form and it was a closely guarded secrete, their ability to control and disarm other armed samurai was highly reguarded. Aikido came from Daito ryu, the combat methods such as atimi waza striking was droped from the teaching. Today there are still a large following in the Daito ryu, There are more qulified instructors in the Aikido arts today than in the Daito ryu but I do not think it is more popular, there are just more Aikido dojo than Daito ryu dojo.
