1) a good mix of guests (invite ppl that dont know eachother) 2) alcohol and food (or at least snacks) 3) good mix of music 4) good seating arrangement (and enough seating) 5) a place for ppl to go outside, smoke, or get fresh air (with chairs and ashtray so butts don't go on the floor)
