  • I think that sometimes I like to be bad. I don't think that I would like feeling innocent all the time.
  • "What was it that Adam ate that he wasn't supposed to eat? It wasn't just an apple. It was the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. The subtle message? 'Get smart and I'll fuck you over' sayeth the Lord. God is the smartest, and he doesn't want any Competition. Is this not an absolutely anti-intellectual religion?" Frank Zappa
  • I've never thought about it quite like that. If you follow the Christian story it seems to say that if Adam and Eve hadn't eaten, they would still be living in perfection and paradise, but with no restrictions other than to not eat from the tree. So, I would agree. We would be able to do anything we wanted, except eat from that tree.
  • My understanding of the story is that when Adam and Eve ate of the fruit, they were effectively saying "I don't want God to be the Ruler of my life. We want to be our own rulers. God is keeping something good from us. He doesn't have our best interests at heart". Instead of looking at it as just Adam and Eve being rule-breakers, I also see it as them wanting to be their own rule-makers, which is what sin is in essence: Rebellion against the rightful Kingship of God. The problem with wanting to do things our own way though, is that we aren't very good at it. We stuff things up, which is partly why this world is in the mess that it is today.
