  • I wish I had an answer; I've been baffled by my company's approach to the economy's problems as well. Our economy suffers, and they raise the price on all of our portrait collections. *boggle*
  • We are in a time where people buy few things for alot of money instead of alot of cheap items.
  • It never ceases to amaze me. I made a handpuppet out of scrap fabric, and it is my 1 1/2 year old grandson's favorite toy. He brings it to me from the minute he comes to the house, and I have to stop everything I am doing and spend the next hour with him and the puppet. Oh, Wait! There is your answer. They pay $140 for Elmo to play with their children, so they don't have to.
  • Well, my 17 month old daughter loves Elmo. She doesn't watch TV in general, but for some reason she likes to listen to Elmo while she plays in her room. She and I do make handmade toys occasionally and she got her love of Elmo from a hand puppet. But, I did spend the $59.98 to purchase her the Elmo Live doll. She is going to love it when we surprise her with it at Christmas! I will add that if the doll had been priced at $143 I would not have bought it.
  • They not only expect it, they are sure of it. I work in a large retail chain store and believe me they line up on the day we are supposed to receive things like Elmo by truck and wait to spend their hard earned money on them. My inlaws will stop at nothing to pamper my 10 year old niece and they are both on social security.
  • I take some offense to whoever commented that people buy toys like Elmo Live to play with their children so they don't have to. I play with my daughter often, but I also give her time to play by herself. Children need to learn to entertain themselves sometimes. I paid $60 for Elmo Live for my daughter's birthday, and she LOVES him. She also carries him around, talks to him, and sets him up for tea parties. People can spend their money on whatever they want to. That's their business. It's no worse than wasting money on cigarettes or alcohol. I say, if everyone would mind their own business.....we'd all be better off!
