That happens to me with some shows, im unsure if anything can be done because it's not your television.

Are you on cable? Are the commercials with loud volume almost always local commercials? If so, your cable company is at fault. You should call them up and tell them the volume level of the network feed of Comedy Central at the head end is set too low. Or some words to that effect. I use Dish Network and watch a *lot* of Comedy Central and I don't have this issue. I'm betting it's your cable company.

I remember a few years back, Magnavox TVs had a feature to prevent loud ads. no idea how it worked or how well, but it sounded like a good idea. You can always record and skip ads, but 'later' isn't always a good time for watching

Zenith makes a television with smart sound (I don't know what they call it). It regulates the volume so that if the volume is set at 10, then everything coming out of the TV is at 10, even commercials. I miss my Zenith.
