With the engine off the battery voltage should measure between 11.9 and 12.1 volts With the engine running the battery voltage should climb to between 13.5 and 14.2 volts. If the battery voltage stays low there is a good chance your alternator is not working. Anothe rthing you can check.. If the alternator is charging the end of the shaft that has the pulley attached to it acts like an electromagnet. With the engine running, CAREFULLY hold the tip of a screwdriver close to the pully and see if it is attracted to it. If it sticks, the alternator is charging.
