  • Japanese scientists have unveiled what they claim to be the most life-like robot ever invented — an eerie android that looks like a five-year-old girl. The robot, known as Repliee R-1, was created by a team at Osaka University's robotics department, according to media reports. It has flexible silicone skin, eyes that blink and pig tails. Up to 50 sensors and motors inside the robot allow it to move and interact with its surroundings like a human. The robot's spooky life-like appearance has already led to comparisons with the boy robot David in Steven Spielberg's movie AI: Artificial Intelligence. But the robogirl has an altruistic purpose. Its inventors hope it will help the elderly and disabled by doing basic tasks such as fetching objects. Cyberdyne, a robotics firm, hopes to start mass producing the models within days, according to reports. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=643975
  • I'm thinking pedophiles all over the world a rejoicing.
  • Not exactly happy that they chose a 5 year old girl, it does seem a little spooky, but I've always wanted a robot around the house. It's about time!!
  • I hear Micheal Jackson has an order in for a male version yo...
  • It seems to me they have a lot of gaijin in the country (outsiders i.e. non Japanese) to do the menial work but even though their population of elderly people is exploding, they so dislike the idea of welcoming a foreigner into their home to provide personal care, that they are frantically trying to build these 'extra Japanese people' to do the work.
