I generally consider myself to be an atheist because I see no evidence or need for most of the gods that are believed in. I think evolution explains how we got from simple organisms to where we are today, but I am not convinved by any single theory regarding where simple organisms came from (abiogenesis, a deist god...) Also, I think the big bang theory explains how the universe got from its beginnings to where it is today, but I'm unconvinced regarding where the big bang came from. Perhaps a diest god again, perhaps not. Personally I think religions tie your hands regarding what you can believe; I personally feel we should keep our options open to new information as it comes in.
