When I consider multitudinously prolific R&R creativity it's the Rolling Stones for me. In terms of blazing warp-drive rock power then it would be Led Zeppelin and Johnny Winter And for me. I'd say that the Beatles were the greatest for overall musical creativity and accomplishment.

The greatest band ever is the Beatles, I mean its not even a competition. They aren't my favorite band, but popularity, social signifance, commercial success they crush hands down. Solo Artist? Nobody compares to Dylan. With Elvis slotted 2nd. Personal favorites go The Clash for band and Johnny Cash as individual artist.

The way bands come and go? It's hard to say, They can be wildly popular for almost a decade then practically vanish from memory. Probably the most remembered bamd of all time will be the Glenn Miller Orchestra, They will be remembered long after bands like Led Zeppelin and Van Halen are forgotten The beatles will likely be remembered in a similar way, In their day they were great and will likely not be forgotten to history either.
