Well, Christians are against freedom of speech when it comes to god/Jesus etc as well. So are other religions when stuff about their beliefs is said. People don't like things said about the stuff they believe in if the stuff being said doesn't go well with how they believe it should be. It's just how a lot of people are.

Faith in religious reasoning, just like all religions. It can't be pointed at one.

I don't know that they are. I believe the radical muslim sects may be but they're motivation is obvious yo...

I think rigid mindsets are the reason/problem. All religions and all political parties suffer from this weakness. They believe only they have a lock on "truth" and everyone else is wrong. Comforting to them..which is why they hold tight to those who share these views and why they vilify those who don't! :)
-
its not what they're used to, lots of muslim people do not believe in democracy and so are used to not having it.

Us Muslims are not against freedom of speech, infact we encourage healthy religious debate between faiths (see the works of Dr. Zakir Naik and Ahmed Deedat). But one thing we will not stand for is mockery and bad-mouthing of Allah (God) and Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him). For years the Christians have had to put up with numerous jokes, remarks and offensive merchandise of Jesus (Peace Be Upon Him), which I am sure has hurt and offended many Christians (and Muslims) alike. There is nothing beneficial, nor 'clever' about mocking the greatest human beings that walked the earth, that suffered great hardships just so that we would be guided. That really is a kick in the teeth.

Most people who are in the wrong and who wish to deny the truth act this way. The Nazis and the Communists are two other groups that spring readily to mind.

As opposed to Christians, right? Well, let them be, at least they're not trying to change my constitutional rights and electing one of their idiots to be president/vice president

The truer qeustion here is: Why does free speech allow people to openly do harm under the umbrella protection of the constitution? I am all for free speech..but I feel that any freedom and right is only up to the point that it infringes upon someone elses rights and freedoms. If I were to go into a library and start screaming I could be arrested for disturbing the peace..but I'm just practicing my free speech right? In Islam, we believe that we should not have pictures of the prophet Muhamed PBUH because, since no one alive today was there then, the picture would be wildly inaccurate and wouldn't represent him properly. Also, how can you draw a picture of God? There are so many things that we shouldn't do just on being tasteful and then those of us that are peaceful followers of Islam get to be accused of terrorism, following a terrorist act, "randomly" screened every time we go to an airport, called murderers, and then when we go turn on the news, the same stuff is beamed into our living rooms. So we ask in return for all the ignorant hate to please leave the prophet and Allah out of it. We take the bashing every day, leave it with us. If the most important thing in your world was taken hostage by terrorists like Islam has been, and the one thing that keeps you stable and gives you guidance is ridiculed on a daily basis, if your home was vandalized and your place of worship vandalized, at some point, wouldn't you also just say "enough is enough, stop saying these things"? The problem is, if we say "stop saying these things" we get attacked with "anti-constituion" talk saying that we don't really believe in free speach. Can you see how it's a no win situation for us. We aren't even trying to "win", we are just trying to get by. I respect your freedom of speech...but doesn't freedom of speech also encompass the freedom of religious practice without persecution? Are you misinformed since you are using your free speech to ask why we use our free speech to take a stance against free speech?

Imagine if somebody made a film about Jesus and Mohammed having a homosexual relationship. The Muslims would not be the only ones wanting to have it banned.

I don't recall situations where many Muslims were against praises in relation to Muhammad or Islam, or even where many Muslims were against irrefutably proven historical facts in relation to Muhammad or Islam. I think "freedom of speech" is cover for "abuse and insult". If so, wouldn't YOU, the reader, be against abuse and insult hurled at YOUR loved ones? It would be a strange kind of love if you were in favour of it.

Sure Spengo. . I'll even use your examples as a guide. I am more than willing to accept that in your mosques, during your worship, we shouldn't be mocking Mohammed. . Everywhere else, he's just one more pervert and fair game. . That's how it is already, of course, but since you're trying to undermine freedom of speech on the sly, that's not what you are about, is it? .

Show me the last video you saw on the internet of a Christian cutting of the head of a "non-believer." Right. You won't find one. You'll find the muslims chopping of heads like it's the national pastime. Simply for not going along with their religion.

I am one Muslim who isn't against Freedom of speech; however I think before it can be defended it needs to apply to all. The paper that published the infamous cartoons refused to publish cartoons that depicted Christ in a way they considered inflammatory, so it would appear they felt what was good for the goose wasn't good for the gander. I think myself that the Ummah or Muslim community needs to lighten up a bit. They aren't Muslim and can't be expected to act in accordance to Sharia. They will get the reward of their actions on the last day. I've been shunned by many for saying as much, but I also think that it is unreasonable to be surprised at the reactions. Try calling a black person the N word, some will undoubtedly be offended and become violent. Its human nature and freedom of speech has limits. Doing or saying something purposely to hurt or provoke isn't a proper use of freedom of speech.
