  • I ama also disabled and on fixed income and it has affected me greatly. I have stopped buying fruit and veggies and most meats. I know get most of my food thru the food banks and of course all they give is foods high in fat like pasta, potatoes, junk food, etc. The foods I do buy I have to buy ONLY when they are on sale. I pretty much live on hot dogs and lunchmeat and canned vegetables. I eat all generics in everything. I NEVER go anywhere to use fuel unless I have a MD appt .. so I don't socialize. I have have had to cancel my life insurance. I no longer can take even small trips to see my best friend who lives in AL (when he comes by me...I live in AR).. I can't afford the gas and fuel to drive 2 hours to see him). Medical bills are ridiculous and utility bills are over half my soc. sec. check. So, honestly, to answer your question, i don't know how we are going to make it. I can't cut back anymore and I am sure you can't either. NO agency seems to be willing to help. I am afraid that a lot of us will end up being homeless because we have no choice. we are having to decide between eating or paying utilities or between paying rent and medical treatment. I am sorry you are having a tough time sadly, there are no answers.
