  • The recent Lord of the Rings came pretty close I think.
  • Perhaps, "To Kill a Mockingbird." or "Gone With the Wind."
  • Stand by Me (did the book full justice) and The Princess Bride (bettered the original authour by removing the pages and pages of politics).
  • I am the one who asked the question. I would say 'My Fair Lady' bettered the original 'Pygmalion' by George Bernard shaw. Rex Harrison bettered Prof. Henry Higgins in the play. Same with all other characters. I would like comments please.
  • Forrest Gump.
  • to kill a mocking bird or lord of the rings
  • The Kite Runner.
  • Only one. The Godfather.
  • la confidential by james ellory
  • The Shawshank Redemption was taken from a short story written by Stephen King and turned into an incredible, epic movie that is one of my all-time favourites. I agree that the Lord of the Rings movies were amazing and in my opinion, exceeded the book. The recent Twilight movie did a decent job of translating to the silver screen, too.
  • I was surprised at how the movie Fight Club was better than the book. The endings are different. Surprisingly, it's the film that pushed the envelope and had a stronger ending. (But besides the end, the book and the movie are almost identical.)
  • Mystic River was probably the most faithful adaptation I've seen. That said, I hated the book, and thusly hated the movie.
  • " Coma "
  • The Myst was a better movie in my opinion than the novella based on it. Also, The Shining was a better movie than the book based on it (but not very many people agree with me there). The Stepford Wives (the original) was better than the book also. Oh. Jaws the movie is definately superior to the book.
  • I thought the movie Eragon was horrible compared to the book. Also, the book The Lost World by Crichton was good, and Spielberg went to hell with the movie.
  • I thought they made Dune into a brilliant movie, and I also think the Harry Potter movies are pretty close to the stories too.
  • American Psycho.
  • I think The Kite Runner was done quite well. Generally speaking, though, there's nothing like a good book.
  • The movie which was not just good but better then the Novel is "SLUM DOG MILLIONAIRE". It is a great movie.
  • The outsiders by s.e. hinton and not only that some pretty cool and upcomeing actors with exeptions to Tom Cruise and the reason i say that is one of the greatest novels i ever red was war of the worlds, one of the worst screen adaptations i have ever seen was war of the worlds. The fact that the unheard of Bradd Pitt had a bit part in the outsiders means crap all to me.The highly underrated Matt Dillon ,my generations James Dean is another thing. What a buzz for me to read the outsiders in high school only to find out that it was written by a female,i have been a fan of hers ever since.: )
  • The Shining.. This is the only book based film i have ever watched that was better than the book..in my opinion..
  • Sophie's Choice
  • To Kill a Mockingbird. It didn't seem a dry on film as in the book.
  • i was always really impressed and amazed that the director of "pet semetary" by stephen king got the pet grave yard and the indian burial ground exactly like i had pictured it in my head, although i liked how the end of the book kind of left it up to your imagination more than the movie.
  • I rececently read and saw " Into the WIld". The movie did the book justice and in my opinion was a little better as the author in the book imparted some of his own experiences in the book.
  • Do comic books count? Cause I'd have to say Iron Man did an awesome job to bring the comic to life!
  • While it's not an adaptation of a novel, Rob Zombie's Halloween is faithful to the orignal while taking it to a new level.
  • I like the James Bond movies better than the books. But I've heard the opposite opinion. I just found that the racism and sexism in the books overwhelmed the action.
  • I think that most books are better than the movies that are made from them. The only one that I can think of that is actually better in my opinion is Jumanji. The book Jumanji is a thin children's picture book which is wonderful, but the movie with Robin Williams creates a whole added depth that's just amazing.
