Well, you may could get them for not protecting your privacy. They didn't contact the address on the check, but another address. You still need to pay, it was your bad debt, but they didn't send it to the right address. Although, it should have never gotten to the point of an attorney.

Typically, collectors need only to send notice to the last known address of the bad check writer. If the address they sent the notice to was the last one they knew...then oh well.

Yes. Just pay the amount of the bounced check along with the filing fee and be done with it. You are in the wrong for having the check bounce. Just make it right.

I paid the amount as soon as I got the letter because I know I made a mistake but I have already paid for it. The lawyer cashed the money order (they will not acknowledge that) but did not stop the suit process and now says I owe them $530 for the $20 check I wrote for my daughters school lunches. The above responses make it sound like I am trying to duck my debt which is not true.
