Why do people rate some questions bad? I thought there was no such thing as a stupid question...

I would agree that there is no stupid question as we all have different education & knowledge levels. But I did just rate down a question that just seemed wrong - about a 13 yr old girl wanting to buy hot sexy clothes, and due to the internet seeming to be a place where kids can get hurt - I thought that was a no good question - not stupid, just weird. It is the only thing i have so far felt compelled to mark down (and I wasn't alone as they were at -10 last time i looked)

Some questions really are very good that are rated down For instance these two questions were rejected by a damn troll or someone: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view.php/72780 http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/86908 Then later resurrected by the staff. Then my question was rated down for no reason I can come to: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/100110 Why? Ignorance. *** Another ignorant Troll!!! DAMN YOU!!

Sadly, due to the anonymous, unverifiable and unaccountable nature of this site, there are not only stupid questions littering the pages of Answerbag, but plenty of questions that are essentially worthless in so many ways.

Because there is a certain extent to the questions you should know to ask. Some questions are offensive and pointless and asked as nothing other than a means of ruffling some feathers. Some people ask questions that they clearly need not ask because there are obvious answers and they should really know better. I mean come on. If some one asks if they should kill themselves, do you think anyone is honestly going to say "yeah go kill yourself" or things like how to become a hacker, or whatever. Answerbag is a place to learn. But there shouldn't be tolerance for knowlegde that won't be well used, or is hurting someone else's feelings. Now, I know not everyone can be completely unoffended by every question, but a lot of the offensive ones are no-brainers not to put up there. The negatives will clearly tell you.

Beats me. I got rated down for saying my favorite fruit is a tomato. Who did I offend? Are there angry fruits on this website? Is there a secret society of apples and oranges covertly rating people on Answerbag? Hmmm

Sadly, even beyond the troll-phenomenon here, there are stupid questions. These are the not the poorly worded or obtuse or silly questions that some rate down. The stupid questions are the ones that are designed to hurt others or just be hostile and confrontational. These I don't have a problem with rating them down. The others I mentioned, I don't think they are rated down by anyone of conscience here, just by the aforementioned trolls.

okay maybe my question wasnt exactly useful but i think i got downrated because the suggestion isnt one that people enjoy thinking about it, it was > would you burn to death a living horse for a million quid? i think having questions that are different,interesting or not useful but make you think about random stuff you never think about are good :)

Well like some people have said and I'm sure I've asked a few dumb ones but there are some pointless questions put on here and they should know better...but as far as why they do it to questions that people really don't now and they are just trying to look for help it's because we do have a few of the occasional jack @sses on here that like to neg. rate people down.

I rate down offensive question, i also rate down questions that aren't actually questions. There is no reason to junk on this perfectly good site. :-)
