Your maternal grandparents come from your mother's side of the family.

Your paternal grandparents come from your father's side of the family.

Grandparents from the mother's as well as father's side qualify to be parental grandparents.
The term 'maternal grandparent' just narrows it down to parents of the mother.
Better use the broadened version 'parental grandparents' and avoid splitting up the seniors in the family into narrower categories.
