  • I would imagine he did. Why didn't he share it? Nobody asked. He had more important news to share. Would you expect him to say "Oh, by the way, the earth orbits the sun. Just so you know." What difference does it make to our spiritual well being?
  • People weren't ready for that information yet?
  • "Divine" is ignorance.
  • Is heliocentricity a prerequisite for salvation?
  • The Catholic church didn't initiate the denouncing of Galileo. Aristotilian scholars, who believed in the Platonic view of the universe, were angry with him because his discoveries refuted their whole view of the universe. To combat him, they found a few Bible verses about the sun circling the sky and showed them to church, declaring that Galileo was a heretic. The church couldn't exactly argue with the evidence at the time, and since there wasn't alot of evidence in support of a heliocentric system at the time, they were forced to agree. That's where your question is derived from, right? And also, you have to remember that the Bible was divinely INSPIRED, not divinely DICTATED, and that it was written with the understanding of 2,000 year old fishermen and shepherds, ok? It is true, but not always on a literal word-for-word bases, and if Jesus had mentioned to the apostles "Oh, by the way, the Earth is spinning around the sun, and so are all the other planets which is why the move oddly," they probably wouldn't have understood him, and decided, in writing the Bible, to focus more on the important spiritual matters that the religion actually addresses. To sum up- the Bible is NOT A SCIENCE TEXT BOOK.
  • no one probably thought to ask him. and sharing scientific information wasnt his goal when he was here. his goal was to bring people's attention to His Father. You know dont you, that if you have any scientific questions you can ask the Holy Spirit and he will respond with the answers. Do you have a desire to meet the Holy Spirit? Would you believe Him?
  • Yes. Jesus taught us the really important stuff like how to relate to God and respect each other. God has always been more interested in faith and actions than in knowledge. This is the age old heresy of the Gnostics. Gnosticism, which predates Christianity by a few centuries, teaches: • The physical world is bad • Only spirituality is good • Humans are trapped in between • Salvation comes from knowledge (gnosis means knowledge) • Elitism, only a chosen few will be saved All of which go against the teaching of Christianity • The physical world is good. God said so in Genesis. • Humans are physical and spiritual beings and both natures are good • Salvation comes from grace and not merit • God wants all to be saved http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/06592a.htm http://www.deusvitae.com/faith/denominations/gnosticism.html With love in Christ.
  • Because religion likes to make it up as they go along. Its a rollicking good tale...but unfortunatly its just a story...rather than factual evidence. http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/1004581
  • Jesus didn't come down here to give us scientific method. Of course He knew, but He was surrounded by fishermen, merchants and sheep herders. Do you really think they could have grapsed the concept of heliocentric? They didn't even understand the concept of chemistry or physics beyond very basic things. If He would have started spouting that kind of stuff off, they wouldn't have had a clue what He was talking about, and it would have completely taken away from the reason He was down here. He has given us the mental capability to discover these things for ourselves. We are all down here for a reason, whether it's to discover, create, learn... all these things make us human and allow us to prosper. If He would have given us all the answers to begin with, there would have been no purpose in having faith. It's like being given a test with all the answers filled in, without having been given a lesson. You really didn't learn anything. Oh and by the way, I don't feel that your question is stupid. I think you have the basic question of "why didn't Jesus tell us everything we needed to know so that so much stupid stuff didn't have to happen to us?" I think it's a very intelligent question at it's base. To search for the truth is human, after all. :-)
  • No. Ignorance is divine cause ignorant people are easy to control.
  • of course He knew. no one asked. peace
  • Dont think they were ready for it then.
  • Why is confused argumentation considered intellectualism? The solar system has nothing to do with why Christians believe Christ came. There are literally billions of factoids Christ didn't share with mankind - none of which have anything to do with salvation.
  • Well, just because he didn't share that fact doesn't mean that he didn't know it. Not necessarily. Although, had he mentioned it in a way that was completely clear and not open to other interpretations, that would be very convincing evidence for his divinity for me. But, of course, the point is not to know, it is to have faith. Psh...whatever...
  • yes. because that knowledge was of no concequence.
  • God does not conform to your ideas about what should and should not be. Get use to that. Most likely, Jesus didn't share his awareness of how the solar system works for two reasons: 1. he knew that people have to "grow into" knowledge, not have it suddenly thrust upon them; and 2. he felt there were much more important things for people to know, such as that they were loved.
  • I think it is implied, for the world revolves around the sun in the solar system like time revolves around the Son of God, hence B.C. and A.D., which respectively means, Before Christ, and Anno Domini, the Year of our Lord.
  • Ignorance is not considered divine. No where in any text of any major religion does it say that.
