Now that President Obama has released his birth certificate, have we heard the last from all the idiotic "birthers?"
Of course not.
Some people just don't like him and will never be satisfied. He could create world peace and an end to all hunger and suffering, and they'd shout "what you doing that for you damned liberal?"

2 aces and 2 king on board. 1/p has pair 5's 2/p has 6 & 2 who wins or do they split the pot
Not knowing the fifth card on the board, P1 has two pair, Aces and Kings, with a 5 kicker. P2 has two pair, Aces and Kings, with a 6 kicker.
P2 takes the pot.

In tournament play, can a player who has chips announce "I quit!" have their chips returned to the well, and leave the building - then return a few minutes later and get those chips back? Thanks!
It's up to the tournament director, but this would be highly unusal. His stack would normally be removed from play after he announces he's out.

poker: last night i saw that the first player to bet kept his cards closed, placed in more money and was allowed to go last, term for this?
I think you're taking about a straddle. You say 'straddle' and place in double the big blind, but are not allowed to look at your cards. You are then buying the benefit of acting last when the flop comes down.

Answer to:
Playing heads up can a player check out of turn, then bet after the other player checks?
Depends completely on the house rules.
In most casinos, yes, this is allowed, but in a local poker league I play, the rule is that the player betting out of turn is held to whatever bets are in front of him. Once when I bet out of turn, the guy ahead of me checked, so I was held to a check as well.
Answer to:
in hold em r u allowed to buy-in for up to 70 % of the big stack even if there is a min max buy-in posted if so where are these card rooms?
The max you can buy in for is called the table maximum, typically 100 big blinds, 200 big blinds, or no maximum (any amount).
The size of the biggest stack is irrelevant.
Answer to:
Why is poker called poker?
No one knows.
The best theory is that it is based on a French game called Poque, (pronounced po- ke), that was played with blind cards and betting. They took it to the deep south, and it rapidly spread up and down the Mississippi, being played on paddle steamers. Add a southern drawl to 'po- ke', it became Poker, and many variations evolved.

Approximately, how long will it take an above average poker player to churn $500 to $15,000? How many tables and hours per day is required or recommended to achieve such a goal? Please I will like you to shed some light on my question.
Depends on many factors, but you should be getting about 10 big blinds in profit every 100 hands.
Answer to:
3 handed, blinds are 800 and 1600, before anyone acts, the guy at big blind has only 3000 in chips so instead of puttting in 1600, he say's he's all in with his 3000 (again, cards not even dealt yet at this point) is this legal?
It's a bet out of turn, with the house rules deciding what happens.
In most casinos I've played in, he is held to his all in bet. But in a pub league I play, he is either held to a check, or held to have called any previous bet. House rules apply.

Answer to:
In the UK, personal gun control is strict, and the police don't carry guns......So basically, only the government military is armed.....does this make sense?
In a word, yes, it makes perfect sense.
Almost all gun shot wounds in Britain are criminals shooting criminals, and it doesn't happen much. Paradoxically, it makes the police safer to be unarmed when confronted by an armed criminal, as there is no reason to shoot the cop. When confronted by an armed cop, the crim would shoot him in a heartbeat. It seems completely backward to Americans, but...

Why do some mothers use their childeren as weapons to somehow rile their child's father?
My boyfriend's ex girlfriend often stops him seeing his daughter for absolutely no reason. She does it all the time, then changes her mind, then changes it again.
Because getting back at their ex is more important than their child's happiness. In their defence, they're so consumed by bitterness they can't see what they're doing to their children.
I pity them, a friend of mine has hardly seen his kid in 12 years. Soon though, she'll be old enough to visit her dad whenever she wants.

If the universe continues to expand (expansion is currently accelerating) will the Big Bang lead to a Big Nothingness?
I doubt it. Eventually the acceleration will slow and and the universe will start to contract into a tiny molecule size and again, another big bang will occur. I suspect this to have happened many times already.
There is little evidence to support this, I just find it rather silly to suggest this is the only universe that will ever exist.

Why do people say there is only one God when God itself admits the existence of other gods? "thou shalt have no other gods before me"
I always wondered about that myself. The phrase does imply the existence of other gods. If there were no other gods he would have said "there is no other god but me". Assuming the Bible is correct and has no errors, as is the belief of the Roman Catholic church, I have to assume the existence of other gods. Assuming god himself exists in the first place.

The power of any country lies in its war powers, and war is not so much a matter of weapons as a matter of money, so one comes from the other.

They expect some payback on their investment, and now they have it.

I just quit (again), so here goes-
1. You'll smell better (The lady in your life will appreciate that) :-)
2. You don't wake up with a headache. You don't realise this until you quit.
3. It only takes you a minute to wake up instead of an hour.
4. You stop feeling perpetually grumpy because you want a cigarette.
5. In 3 months I've saved about £400.

Absolutely.
Although the cards themselves are pure chance, poker isn't about winning hands, it's about winning chips.
Imagine a good player and a bad player are playing each other.
When the bad player is dealt 2 Aces, there's an 80% chance he'll win a few chips.
When a skillful player holds 2 aces, there's an 80% chance he'll take most of the other...

Yes, It's called a check raise.

Why is it do you think presidential Candidates don't quote the Founding Fathers anymore?
I'm a Brit, but here goes.
I don't think the founding fathers have the same ideals as a lot of modern Americans, in that the same rights and freedoms declared in the declaration of independence are the very same as those being denied by the modern US government to other people in other countries, as well as within their own borders.
To quote the founding Fathers while executing...

I myself am not angry with the US, but I think I can answer your question. I think the second part of your question answers the question for you-
'saving Europe TWICE or defeating the Soviet Union'.
I believe it is this sanctimonious attitude that makes people angry, not US foreign policy or anything else.
Are you suggesting that the US saved little old Britain? Because they...

Of course it's wrong.
What you want is irrelevant. The only important thing is that your kids need him. Only when they're old enough to decide for themselves can they decide not to see him, but it's their decision, not yours.

Define the differences between an animal and a human being in a manner that leaves no doubt at all, please.
The opposable thumb.
That's it.
Given that the question was posted under philosophy, I assume you are hoping for some philosophical reason why humans are different from animals, but I don't believe there is one. Humans are animals, of that there is no doubt, and I believe that humans believe otherwise only because they are a human, just as hamsters believe otherwise because they...

"I'd better give you a sick note, don't go back to work"

Your buddy has never seen any of the Star Wars movies. They are planning a marathon of all 6 of them. Would you recommend they watch in chronological order or the order they came out in?
I'd like to be able to watch them in chronological order, for the first time, hypothetically, and see what it would be like.
I think it would make a big difference to how the characters and storyline are perceived, rather than having seen them in the order they were released.
I'd tell him to watch them from episodes 1 through 6, then tell me what he thinks.

What minimum altitude is required for a parachute jump?
In the UK it is 2200 feet for a round canopy deployed via a static line, 3000 feet for a RAPS, or square, canopy via static line.
Only parachuting students would ever jump a static line, so it's 2500 feet for licensed jumpers in freefall, but I have seen the rules being bent on particularly bad weather days, and they go from 2000 feet (but it still says 2500 feet on the paperwork).

It won't harm the laptop, but it may not work or it might work. Try it and see. If it doesn't, you'll need a 100 to 120 Volt adaptor.
Voltage is not accurate, it's only a guide. There could be up to 110 Volts coming out a 100 volt socket, and the laptop will probably work on as little as 100 volts.

Answer to:
Is it high current or high voltage that determines if an electric shock is fatal?
The electrician speaks!
The short answer is the current.
The longer answer is that in order for a fatal current to flow, you'll need about 2,000 Volts to push it, voltage being the pressure pushing the current through your body.
So without a high voltage, you can't have the high current, so you would actually need both.

Having said that, organic is just too damned expensive to eat all the time, it's about 3 times the price.
You can make some good tasty meals with non organic ingredients, but if you want to make something really, really good....... It's got to be organic.

I see you're a real Star Wars fan, so I'll give you the canonical answer. He is already dead, and quite vaporised, so there isn't much can be done with him, execpt keep him as a small jar of plasma. You can find it all on Wokieepedia.com, but here's a short version:

What language does Yoda speak?
Yoda spoke an unusual version of Basic (the Republic trade language, English to you and I). He usually tended to place verbs (especially auxiliaries) after the object and subject (an object-subject-verb format). An example of Yoda's speech pattern: "When nine hundred years old you reach, look as good you will not." Most agreed that this pattern of speech was convoluted, and while...

I want us to dump petroleum as a fuel source so we can leave the middle east alone, eliminate a lot of dirty politics, and reduce significant amounts of air pollution. Are you in?
Sounds good in theory, but I'm not sure it would work.
Some other natural resource would become the most valuable commodity on Earth, say water, and instead of the oil barons using dirty politics to invade the Middle East for oil, it would be water barons using dirty politics to invade somewhere else for water.
You're right about reducing air polution though.

There is a whole Star Wars Expanded Universe of books, comics, and cartoons stretching from nearly 2 billion years before The Phantom Menace to over 100 years after Return of the Jedi, so it's hardly a 'new' idea.
For example, after Han and Leia marry, they have three children, the twins Jaina and Jacen, and later Anakin. (Every big Star Wars fan knows that). I wouldn't...

At present the Jaffa Cake is classified as a cake but the British government is attempting to get it reclassified as a biscuit. This would mean it would come under a higher tax bracket as biscuits are subject to 17.5% VAT, where cakes are VAT exempt. This is because biscuits soften when they go off, and cakes go hard, and as we all know, a stale Jaffa Cake is hard. Therefore it must be a cake....

Answer to:
Why should people work? it seems it easier to not work and count on the gov to give you money, if you work money is taken
Society cannot be sustained and the free market economy would collapse unless people work. With no money being earned there would be no taxes paid, so the government would be unable to invest the tax money to help the economy grow. Also with no money to spend, shops would close, prices would soar, our currency would become worthless, other countries would refuse to trade with us. With no...

Do you agree with Benjamin Disraeli when he said. "As a general rule the most successful man in life is the man who has the best information"?
In a way yes, but if you cannot put the information accross effectively, then the information is useless, while even the most uninformed can be succesful if he can bullshit effectively.
So the most succesful man is just as Disraeli said, but can also put it accross effectively.

I give them moral support and would never speak against them. I do not agree with the war in Iraq, believing we were told a load of lies to justify it.

Yes. I was the favourite.
Probably because my parents never talk, and only want a quiet life. My brother always felt it necessary to verbalise his feelings, and felt unloved when they didn't talk back. I, however, quickly realised that talikng to them was a waste of time because i never got a reply, so i didn't bother, and soon became a social retard, unable to talk to anyone.

I think they should pay more respect to the people who gave their lives to protect them.
I feel they should always have the right to say it, but that if they feel that strongly about the war, they should go and protest somewhere else.

Answer to:
Are moral values relative or absolute?
I believe so. They are dependent upon the time, culture, religion and personal experience of the person who experiences them. For example, I got stabbed when I was 17, and as much as I may deem that morally 'wrong', it was evidently not that 'wrong' to the person who stabbed me. So there you have it, of course morality is relaitive.

If you keep travelling and traveling in space, what is at the very end? Brick wall? 6ft fence? What? There MUST be something??! Surely.
There is a theory that space is bent into a spherical shape, much like the Earth, so if you constantly travel in one direction, you will come all the way back around to where you started. That may sound impossible, but in the middle ages people thought it impossible that the Earth could be round, so it's not that great a leap of the imagination to think the universe is also a sphere.

Any water in the electrical system can short the lights, so this may seem a dumb question, but are you sure the lights are waterproof? Assuming they are, you can get an electrician to install an outdoor socket and plug, which are definitely waterproof. How do you know if what you are doing is brave or stupid?
I think if you are helping another person who is in danger, then it is always brave, because it can't possibly be stupid to help another person in distress.
When someone else is not in danger, such as in extreme sports, anything from the really dangerous like BASE jumping, to the not really dangerous like skateboarding and roller blading, I think the stupidity level is inversely...

What is the US military missing or untrained in that explains the continuing insurgency in Iraq? What must they gain in order to bring considerable order and peace to the beleaguered country?
Coalition governments do not care that the insurgency carries on, it gives them the right to remain, and steal more oil, the whole reason they are there in the first place.
Everything else, Saddam, WMDs, Genocide, insurgency, suicide bombers, it's all crap, it's just one giant smokescreen designed to prevent you from seeing what's really going on, which is a threefold plan:...
Answer to:
Isn't it possible that Saddam either buried his WMDs or shipped them out of Iraq prior to our invasion?
Of course it is possible.
If you were to ask the question 'Do you BELIEVE that Saddam.......?'. Then the answer is no, I do not. The guy with the best knowledge on the subject, UN weapons inspector Hans Blix, told the UN that he had been given adequate access to any site he wished to inspect and the WMDs simply were not there, in the years between Gulf war 1 and most recent...

Atheists do help the world out, loads of charities listed by other contributors show this.
Maybe the Atheists you speak to only knock YOUR religion because they are sick of your self righteous attitude, especially where Atheism is concerned.

Why is the belief in spirits, ghost, or phycic abilities aften looked down on by many religious leaders?
They are dangerous to the power structure of religious institutions because Spirits, Ghosts and Psychic abilities remove some of the incorruptability of God, by suggesting that it is not only God who does things that can't be explained.
Religious leaders are loyal to the power structures of the religious institutions that they lead, not to the God or Gods they claim to follow, that is...

When the security of your country is at stake, do you think criminals (or terrorists) should have the right to a lawyer and a fair trial?
Everyone has the right to a fair trial, and be subject to the letter of the law. When the law is thw law, but not when the lawmakers feel like it, we become no better than the lawbreakers. We have the right to execute them as the law sees fit, but not to treat them unlawfully.
At the end of the second world war, it would have been very easy to execute the head nazis when they were captured,...

What could have existed before the bigbang theoretically made the universe what it is now?
The big bang created everything, even time, so to say 'before' the big bang? There was no 'before' the big bang.
Maybe the big bang happened from nothing, maybe a creator made it happen, and ultimately the creator came about from nothing, or maybe the creator always existed.
All the options sound impossible to me, the only theory making any kind of sense is the...

How does one become a standup comedian?
Try checking comedy clubs in your area, see if they do an amateurs night. I tried it in Scotland and got booked in for a 5 minute slot each time, and the audience was very understanding of the fact it was an amateurs night (no heckling for example, and it was only £2 to get in). Give it a go, you'll love it.

What makes a cannon shot? Is it when the cue ball strikes two object balls, or is it when the cue ball makes two object balls collide?
In snooker, a cannon is when the cue ball strikes the object ball and then goes on to strike a secndary object ball, the second ball being 'cannoned'.
When the cue ball strikes the object ball and the object ball goes on to stirke a secondary ball, that's called a plant. Maybe it's called something different in pool, I don't know.

To vote for a party that will never win anyway is not an option, because that sends the party justification for a manifesto that you may not even believe in!

Practically every European speaks at least some English and you can find someone who can help you find your way around, and English speaking waiters who can provide English Menus. My only advice is to make an attempt to speak the language, in France in particular, they consider it very rude not to make an attempt, even a bad one. Most will help you as far as possible because their English is...

Why do so many people keep their cats permanently indoors?
I have kept several cats over the years and always allowed them to play outside if they wish. I found that some cats (like my first one, Korky) was forever outside and had to be coaxed indoors at night, even disappearing for days on end. While another, Cuddles, wouldn't go outside at all.
It is up for debate wether you think it safer or more natural or whatever, but in my experience,...

Negating the impracticality of the scenario, what would happen if an unstoppable force collided with an immovable object?
They would both innihilate each other.
I have noticed several contradictions in other answers and I believe this is the only answer that settles both parts of the 'unstoppable force colliding with an immovable object?' scenario.
When an object is annihilated, it ceases to exist and is converted into energy, like when anti matter particles meet matter particles.
So the...

How do you start a friendship?
The best way to have a friend is to be a friend. People like to be asked about themselves, to be made to feel that they are interesting and worthy of your company, so show an interest, ask them about themselves, where they live, work, their interests, hopes and dreams, friends, family, loved ones, hobbies, opinions on the kind of things you like, wether it be football, music, religion,...

When we're not in any danger, why do we enjoy the feeling of being scared?
I saw a documentary that said when we are very scared, we get the feeling that we are close to death, giving us the natural urge to re produce before we expire. Therefore we get a sexual buzz when we feel fear. Don't know if thats true, but it's an interesting thought.

My boyfriend came in my mouth after oral sex. I didn't know what to do so I swallowed it, but I never want to swallow again. How should I handle this without swallowing and without being impolite?
I am assuming you didn't mind that he came in your mouth, you just don't want to swallow the cum.
Just tell him that you don't want to swallow anymore. Most guy's won't mind if you spit it out, as long as you tell him first! From a personal point of view, It wouldn't affect my enjoyment if you were to spit or swallow, but I wouldn't like you to spit on me...

What would happen to the US economy if the government abolished income tax?
It is about a balance between what the government spends and what they get in from taxes. When the government spends more than the tax it gets in, this is a deficit and the US has to borrow that money from other governments or the World bank. Specifically, income tax accounts for only around 30% of total government revenue, the rest coming from all the other taxes we have to pay.

What is a good beer for a beginner drinker who hates the bitter taste?
When I first started drinking in pubs, I hated the bitter taste also, so my brother suggested i try 'lager tops'. If the barman doesn't know what a lager tops is, ask for almost a pint of lager (leave about half a centimetre at the top of the glass) with a wee dash of lemonade to fill the glass. It takes away the bitterness and tastes quite nice. After 6 months or so i got used to...

Only one, but it costs £500. In USD about $10,000.
Answers101- I know it's not $10,000, I'm suggesting I artificially inflate my prices (I am an electrician), especially just for obnoxious Americans. That's 2 punchlines in the one joke, you should be happy. Your rating dosen't rate the question. Just for the record, this is a jokes page. Anyone else getting a sense of...

I take 100 mg of Zoloft everyday, but I still ruminate about suicide. Is this normal?
It is never normal to contemplate suicide, no matter what medication you are taking. You could take the most powerful anti- depressants in the world and turn yourself into a brainless wonder who does not think about suicide, but thats hardly a cure is it? Although anti- depressants can be a very useful tool in fighting depression, they also combat your minds ability to think straight, and can,...

In the UK, what's the difference between being the insult of being called a 'cow' or a 'mare'?
Extending Mister c's answer, in Glasgow, I have never heard someone called a mare. A cow is a girl who will have sex with almost anyone (tart, slut etc.).
I have been known to call a guy a cow, although I am the only person I have ever heard use the word cow as an adjective for a guy, as it's uniquely a girl thing.
I did it as he would, and did, have sex with anyone who was...

Why do people hate lawyers so much?
Because they charge you a lot of money and do not really help you that much. It's a value for money thing, when you hand over £1,000 to someone, you expect £1,000 of work to be done. You don't expect no help, delay's, taking forever to get the job done, getting sued anyway, and the £1,000 going up to £10,000.
I have never met a Lawyer who could give a straight answer, even to...

If someone starts telling a joke that you've heard before, should you tell them?
I was at a wedding and a guy told a joke that I thought i had heard before. I didn't say anything at the time as i didn't know if anybody else at the table had heard it or not. It was almost identical to the joke i knew, but had a very different punchline.
Being completely unexpected, I roared with laughter louder than anyone else.

Which religion is "right"?
Religions are not right or wrong, only right for some people and wrong for others. In Buddhism, it is believed that everyone has there own path to follow, and because that path is right for that one person, does not mean that it will be right for anyone else. We all have our own paths to follow and for some that means Christianity is right, for some Buddhism is right, for some Shinto is right,...

Why were the Falkland Islands so important for England that it went to war with Argentina?
As pointed out by Drinking Dano, the decision to re- take the Falklands was largely political, Mrs Thatcher winning the general election by a landslide soon after. There is also oil and gas underneath the Falkland islands, although at the moment it is not economically viable to extract it, so the reasons aren't that different to the wars we fight nowadays.
I know there is oil and gas...

Scottish and Irish people should be reffered to as either Scottish or Irish, but not both at the same time, as Scotland and Ireland are two completely different countries. One theory I have read is that by walking on 2 legs, it freed the hands to work with. After freeing the hands we began to use them to minipulate small objects around us with far greater precision . This gave us a distinct advantage over other animals as we could live somewhere away from predators, and by manipulate the environment make it a safe place to live. Other animals could not...
