Would you leave an abusive relationship, even if it meant being alone forever?
Different take...
Oh, I would never want to be alone. It's much more scary to be alone than having fractured ribs and a broken arm. I heal quickly and the bruises really only last less than a week. Okay, so I've lost most of my close friends and have missed some time from work, but at least I've got my wonderful partner with me. Yeah, most of the time my partner is cruel,...

My sympathies to your co-worker. I agree with many of the ABers here. I feel that $20.00 is appropriate, but you can also donate items. For someone starting over, the basic necessities are a big help. Kitchen items to help her feed her family, toiletries, clothes, bedding, baby items, etc.

If you do not believe in God's existence, please don't be blasphemous.
There are many paths to the Source -- the Supreme Being -- just like there are many roads into a city. The religion or practice you chose is just a method to connect to source. If you feel that religion B brings you closer to a relationship with your Supreme Being, rather than A, isn't that a good thing?

Christians in the fourth century assigned December 25 (the Winter Solstice on the Julian calendar) as Christ's birthday (and thus Christmas) because pagans already observed this day as a holiday. As the dates of Saturnalia are not precisely...

Yeah, I learned that the hard way - hurt a co-worker's feelings when I told her I envied her because she was "skinny." She had been trying hard to gain weight. Thankfully, she opened up to me and honestly told me how it made her feel.

What are your favourite quotes that actually inspire, motivate and captivate you as a person?
I don't consider myself a religious person, but I find the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi(The Prayer of Peace) very inspiring and grounding:
Lord, make me an instrument of thy Peace.
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
where there is injustice, pardon;
where there is doubt, faith;
where there is despair, hope;
where there is darkness, light;
where there is sadness, joy.

Sometimes children are told to shut up, sometimes children notice that they are frustrating those around them by the curiosity. I stopped asking and started looking for answers on my own when I was told to start "using my noodle" and find out for myself. Even as adults, we are sometimes discouraged from asking why and told "just do it." Thank goodness for the internet,...

Christians only please: My brother in law (atheist) doesnt want to take his kids to church, should I intervene so they know the love of christ at an early age?
You could intervene, but the tension it could create and the possible loss of a brotherly relationship will teach your brother-in-law's children something other than the love of Christ.
Trust that your thoughts, your love and prayers will touch their hearts and minds much deeper than a power struggle with your brother-in-law over how they should be raised.

I guess with me, I would save the life of the stranger. As much as I adore my pets, I feel they are much more atuned to the life and death cycle. It seems we humans have a harder time with death and I would be concerned for that person's family (and I would like to think our pets have that same compassion for us frail humans).

It seems that each side in a confrontation believes that "God" is on their side. Some people believe "the devil" made them do it. I feel when we start to take responsibility for our own choices, we grow and...

I'm with Miss S - I enjoy a lot of what technology has to offer. I do like to buy the cheaper generic versions of a lot of things, though. The name brand stuff is just too over-priced and over-hyped. I have a wonderful little mp3 player that cost me $15 and it's still working fine and sounds great.

If I were you, I would talk with a counselor to find out what is going on inside of me that would cause these feelings to arise.

Jealousy can arise when someone may feel unworthy or have a fear of being abandoned, etc.

Not if she's a decent director. Some mediocre directors yell and scream, but the one's I have worked with that are worth their salt and know what they're doing would never dream of belittling their cast.
I'm so sorry she is ruining your experience on the stage. Best of luck to you and I hope you work with another director soon that will erase the negative time.

Females, you see the girls that get undressed on TV, and do all the dancing, Does it ever irritate you, How Some Woman degrade them selves? or Do you not even think about it?
I feel somewhat sad when I see the commercials for shows like The Bachelor and the women are fighting each other. I grew up in the 60s and 70s through the women's lib movement, and in some ways I feel proud when I see my daughter playing soccer and doing things that she would not have been able to do in the 50s and 60s. In other ways, I feel like we've taken a step backwards where...

Does anyone use the cheap Equate brand found in walmart? They make medicine, moisturizer, shampoo, etc, and I look at the ingredients from other expensive brand name and Equate has the same ingredients as well, should I stick to it because it's cheaper?
Years ago, companies were not required to list their ingredients, and so there was always a "secret ingredient" that made one stand out or be overpriced, depending on marketing. Not so now, so ingredients can be copied and sold--like the Equate products. The overpriced stuff is overpriced because of marketing (which creates the illusion that it is superior)

I feel Rabbi Yeshua was an incredible man and helped so many people find their way back to our Creator. He was provocative toward the overly pious higher ups (as was St. Francis) and lifted the poor. There are people who give all to charity (leaving them little) and they know it connects on a deeper level than outside appearances or what people think. Some of the most charitable...

Are you having second thoughts? Will you be okay when he's a senior citizen in five years and you're a sprite, young 25? If you feel uncertain, take a step back and really look at what kind of relationship you'll have with this individual. It's really up to you to judge if it's okay.

In all seriousness, I have nothing, am nothing, and no one gives a damn. My friends have forgotten me and my family never liked me to begin with. Why shouldn't I kill myself? (Ask for details if you like, I'll answer. No religious responses, please.)
Hold on Michie, just hold on tight. That dark feeling inside your head is not who you really are. When I've been where you are now, it was hard to see the way out except taking myself out of the picture. Don't believe that side of you that tells you you're nothing--it lies, it judges and it can be cruel. The people that are typing back to you care enough to tell you to hold...

My suggestion would be to have a serious sit down with your parents, without the brother involved, and lay out what has been happening over the years in a clear, non-emotional tone. I agree with badmudda that if your parents still will not act on your concerns, that you will need to let them know you will need to report the problem to the proper authorities. Your brother may be going through...

You tell me that you need me
Then you go and cut me down, but wait
You tell me that you're sorry

If you love the picnic game, you may really like the similar game where you build a story using sentences starting with the letters A-Z. Sometimes it is work-related -- can't wear them around construction equipment, electrical equipment, etc. or some men do not like the feel of jewelry on their fingers because before they were married, they had never worn jewelry on their hand.

Does brand name clothing detergent make a difference compared to generic brands? I go for the cheapest I can find like Costco's Kirkland "brand" in huge 5 gallon vats. :)
Year-to-year clothing--in one year, out the next, I shop generic. That way, they're cheap and if they fall apart, no problem. For classic pieces, I usually go with a brand name I know from past usage carries great fabrics, strong lines and washes nicely.

What activity (situation) gave you the steepest adrenalin rush ever?
When my husband and I had an intruder in our house. We woke up and there was someone standing in the hall--we could only see this large shadow silhouette . We both rushed headlong toward the bedroom door and slammed it shut hard, called 911, and then screamed that the cops were on their way and get the hell out. Thankfully, the person(s?) left.

Sounds like you may need an intervention with a party not connected to the family situation -- like a children's therapist. Talking with a trained therapist was a great help to my stepdaughter and did not pit parent against parent.

Instead of looking where the hand is pointing--the moon--we become enamored with the pointer. We can become bogged down and enamored with the "rules and regs" and...

At what age should a guy naturally turn gray?
I varies for families. My brother is almost 45 and is not gray at all. I (female), started going gray at 24 and turned completely gray at 45. I really like the look of gray on a man, despite those silly "Just For Men" spots.

Why do girls who work at ie.at restaurants, information booths, secretaries, expect guys to on some level like them, i.e. feel some kind of romantic connection? A lot of times, i have gotten better service whenever i have showed romantic interest.
I find it works both ways. As a female, I get better service, too, if I treat the individual like they matter. In my humble opinion, we all want to feel we have worth...and, in turn, we say thank you through our actions...

From any perspective, what is a good response for someone who asks, "If there is a God, why would he let people suffer?" I understand how they feel so I don't want to sound condiscending but I want to give them a meaningful answer without offening them.
Sometimes we judge things as "bad" or "good," through our own perceptions. We've all had things that we thought were bad, but in the end have been blessings. There is a Taoist story of an old farmer who had worked his crops for many years. One day his horse ran away. Upon hearing the news, his neighbors came to visit. "Such bad luck," they said...

What is the greatest transformation you have ever seen/experienced?
Points for a thoughtful question! I held my cat on my chest and looked into her eyes as she left this existence on earth. Not much later, I sat at the foot of my father-in-law's bed and witnessed his last breath taken in a very broken down body. Horrible and beautiful at the same time. A very sacred thing...as incredible as birth.

What is the meaning of the song "into the ocean", by Blue October?

How did you teach your daughter how to dress in good taste. give examples or tips of dressing appropiately
My step-daughter experimented for a while on her own (with some winces from us parents); however, when she became a teenager, we looked together on the net for "classic" fashion styles and retro stuff. Her mother also bought her a subscrition to Teen Vogue. She became smitten with fashion from the 50s and 60s and has learned why the classics never go out of style. She still wears...

If there really was a god, why wouldn't he just show himself, so everyone would believe in him, and world would be a "better place" Why would he have a need for people to have faith and believe in him without proof?
We see the creator all the time--through the creation. Kind of like we cannot see electricity, but we see its work through what it manifests. I don't feel there is a "He"--that's our creation.

Honest question: When someone says they pray for something to happen, they say say they are "talking to "god"". Well if "god" isn't in their mind, of human form, how can they speak to "him", as speaking and having a voice is of human nature?
Good question:) I feel that when we are speaking to and labeling God as a "him," it is to enable most of us humans to comprehend the incomprehensible. We are constantly connected to and are a part of the creation--and we are in constant communication. It is usually in times of stress and need, that we realize this and become conscious of it. So many of the great mystics (including...

I like this girl and her friends say she likes me but im not sure. we flirt like crazy by text, but when we talk in school person to person, it's awkward.what should i do?ask her out?
If you're not totally comfortable asking her on a date, you can ask her to lunch for a short day date. Either way, you'll need to work up the courage. Seomtimes shyness can read to someone else as not being interested. If you're 80 percent sure, you're almost there--go for it! “What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?”--Vincent Van Gogh

Have you ever walked around your house naked?
I like to clean house in the nude. If I have to, I'll wear a sarong either around my waist with my upper torso free of clothing or if I need to go near any open window, tied up around my chest like a dress. Clothing feels so constraining sometimes.
