Instructions

Things You’ll Need:

  • Morphine Pills
  • Step 1:
Check the manufacturer name on the bottle or, if listed, on the pill. While these are not the only morphine manufacturers, the most common brands come from Roxane Laboratories, Xanodyne, Watson, King, Ethex Corporation, Endo, Alpharma Inc., Glenmark Generics, Mallinckrodt and Purdue Pharma.
  • Step 2:
Study the shape and design of the pills in question. Different manufacturers usually make their morphine pills in different shapes. Roxane Laboratories, for example, tends to issue round pills that have been scored. Xanodyne usually issues a round sustained-release tablet. Watson, on the other hand, usually issues tablets that are either round or oblong but they are extended-release. King issues extended-release capsules. Ethex usually makes an oval extended-release tablet but has also issued partially scored round and capsule-shaped tablets. Endo makes an extended-release tablet that may come in either a round, oval, or capsule form. Alpharma Inc., has been known to issue extended-release capsules. Glenmark issues scored tablets in either round or capsule form. Mallinckrodt issues extended-release tablets in round and capsule form. Purdue Pharma issues extended-release, controlled-release and scored tablets that may be either round or in capsule form.
  • Step 3:
Do not rely solely on color to identify a morphine pill. There is no one standard color for a morphine pill. They have been manufactured in white, gray, blue, green, lavender, orange, blue-violet, yellow, red and white, brown, pink, light blue, light brown and light orange.
  • Step 4:
Look at the numeric imprint to identify the pill. Morphine pills are usually imprinted with a specific set of numbers and/or letters. A few examples include: 54 262; 54 409 /30; ABG/200; E659/200; KADIAN 100mg; LV/915; and PF/MI30. This is not a comprehensive list. See below for a resource that will help you to identify pills based on their imprints.

Tips & Warnings

  • This list was compiled for informational purposes only. If you are unsure as to the identity of a pill you should check with your doctor or pharmacist. This list represents only a sampling of the different types and brands of morphine pills. Again, just because the brand, color, shape, and pill imprint does not appear in this article does not mean you do not have a morphine pill on hand. Check with your doctor or pharmacist for additional clarification.Never take morphine pills that have not been prescribed specifically to you by your doctor. Take only as directed by your doctor or pharmacist.
