Instructions

  • Step 1:
    Look at the color of the pill. Metoprolol Succinate tablets are white. This is true whether you are taking the generic version or the name brand version of the drug.
  • Step 2:
    Check the shape. These pills are either round or pointed oval, depending on the dose. You can check your prescription to find out which shape your pill will be. 25mg and 200mg pills are oval, while 50mg and 100mg pills are round. However, if the pills are extended release, they will be oval for the 50mg and 200mg pills, and round for the 25mg and 100mg pills.
  • Step 3:
    Examine the coating. All Metoprolol Succinate tablets must be film coated. Additionally, they will have an imprint that varies according to the manufacturer and dosage amount. For example, 25mg extended release pill manufactured by Sandoz Pharmaceuticals, Inc will be marked with E281 on one side of the pill.
  • Step 4:
    Notice the score. All 25mg tablets must be double scored, which means it is scored on both sides. All other dosage amounts are single scored.
