International Falls, Minnesota, nicknamed “the Nation’s Icebox is officially the coldest city in the continental United States.

The coldest city in America though, is Prospect Creek, Alaska. Temperatures there average 79.8 degrees below zero.

    • Officially Gunnison, CO is the coldest city in the USA outside of Alaska, NOT International Falls, MN. Barrow, AK is considered colder then Gunnison, and is truly in a category all its own. Understand that Barrow is well North of the Arctic Circle, and extremely close to The North Pole. Gunnison, thousands of miles to the south, is just west of The Continental Divide @ approx 7,700 altitude, where cold air can pool in the late nights/early mornings. That fact contributes to Gunnison being much colder the Barrow, AK during the summer months.
