Do you believe that the Theory of Evolution and the Bible are compatible? Why or Why Not?

    It depends on the theory. I fully support the idea that life has the ability to evolve and adapt, as we have seen much evidence to prove this. However, the theory that all life evolved from a single source is mutually exclusive from the bible. Intelligent design (the bible's account of life) states that each creature was created from scratch, as is. There was no evolution to make the animals as they are.

    Specifically the bible says that God made the animals and then brought them to Adam, and Adam named them. That indicates that, like man, animals were created in their final form.

    There are quite a few fundamental difficulties with the theory of evolution, and even the ancient universe theory.

    One thing that the bible gives us that evolution does not, is the origin of this universe. Science cannot accurately tell us where the universe came from. Is it eternal, or did it have a beginning?

    If it is eternal, why hasn't it consumed itself (energy and matter consumption of stars, etc.)?

    If it has a beginning, what was there before?

    Another problem with Evolution is the issue of intelligence versus matter. The big bang theory states that the universe came from matter, and so did life.
    The issue with this is the fact that scientists acknowledge that matter cannot create information. Only intelligence can create information. So where did DNA come from? It is one of the most complex codes of molecular information in the universe. Scientifically it is impossible for matter (just plain dumb stuff) to create such information. Something like that could only be created by intelligence.

    Going back to the previous point about the origin of the universe, the issue of matter v's intelligence comes in here as well. If the universe (and the matter in it) had a beginning, then matter did not always exist. Where did it come from?

    There has been some debate that there has to be an eternal element to this existence. But if it's not the universe (or matter), then it has to be an eternal intelligence. This would support the idea of a 'god'.
    The bible does say that God is eternal, with no beginning and no end.

    Although most secular scientists won't acknowledge it, science itself has an uncanny tendency to point towards an eternal intelligence - God of some sort.

    The fact that the theory of evolution (in its fullness) comes from a naturalistic view which by its own nature denies the existence of God, it cannot be compatible with the teaching of the bible. One of them has to be wrong. While we have no empirical way of proving the bible account to be true, the naturalistic theories do not hold up to serious scrutiny either. There are just too many holes and flaws in the whole evolution and ancient universe theories.

    * Radio Carbon dating has been proven inaccurate.

    * There are odd creatures such as the bombadier beetle that just defy evolutionary logic.

    * All the missing links have been classified into human/ape species, or debunked as hoaxes. There is no evidence of a genuine 'missing link'.

    * There is no evidence of the changing nature of evolution. All fossils found are of complete species. There are no specimens that show 'evolution in action'.

    * The requirements needed to create DNA are just too specific and complicated to happen just by chance. Scientifically it is near on impossible. Even scientists using controlled conditions and specific methods have been unable to create DNA. It is beyond even our capacity to create. The chemistry required to make DNA means it can't have happened in water, so the primordial ocean theory is out. The very nature of DNA makes it physically impossible to have been assembled by chance.

    * Evolution transgresses the Second Law of Thermodynamics. This law has been proven to be scientific law (not just theory), so another theory cannot breach it and still be valid.

    What irritates me is that while the 'theory' of creation is shunned and outlawed from schools, the 'theory' of evolution (and that is all it is - a theory) is taught as gospel fact. It's not. All it is is a theory, and as such it should be taught as just a theory. Now don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to say that evolution is just dead wrong and creation is just dead right. Even though it may read that way, the point of this is that I just find it odd that people are so willing to swallow this stuff without asking any questions or searching out answers for themselves. The truth is there are many holes in evolution/ancient earth 'theory', but yet nobody challenges the institutions to show cause why these things are taught as fact. Surely the presence of such flaws would merit closer investigation and scrutiny of this theory that we teach as fact.

    An interesting note to finish: in his naturalistic theory of evolution (which proclaimed survival of the fittest and natural selection), Darwin had a unicorn - an elusive creature that just baffled him as to where it fitted in. It was the peacock. He simply could not figure out why any creature would evolve to have a great, shiny bullseye on its backside...

    • Excellent Answer!! I'm a Christian and I hold the belief in Young-Earth Creationism. I just wanted to hear (or uh...read I mean) other people's veiwpoints on evolution and the Bible because some hold the veiw of Theistic Evolution. Thank you for your answer. It is very helpful.

    • radio carbon dating is wrong at some extent but can proove things are younger than thought by evolutionist. If evolution is true all dinosaurs have gone extinct sixty-five million years ago and should have no tracible amount of C-14 in it because it is gone after fifty thousand years. Yet creationist have found enough C-14 for those fossils to be UPTO 40 thousand years. I still agree with the fact that radio carbon-14 is still inaccurate, but it can help proove a young earth of 6,000 years.
