Sharona Life is a Tale Told by an Idiot

Question

Help answer this question below.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could flag medical advice questions? This is so out of hand. We are not doctors and if we are, who would be so irresponsible to diagnose someone over the net on Answerbag? A pregnancy? An Illness?

No. The internet is a resource like any other. Doctor's themselves "practice" medicine and routinely look up symptoms for potential causes. (There are even licensed doctors that diagnose via the web. Anyone, including doctors, can misdiagnose.) The greatest asset credentials bring is the experience doctors have gained from practicing on live patients. But everyone has had individual medical experiences that could also be of value to someone seeking advice, particularly those that cannot or will not seek help from a board certified doctor.

Information on sites like AB can also be a global sharing mechanism for rare medical problems or to link others with additional resources or information that doctors don't offer willingly.

Although I certainly hope anyone seeking medical advice here does it with the understanding that it is not professionally given, it can still be helpful. The pregnancy questions are just a mild annoyance because most could be eliminated with education and/or a simple, affordable at-home test obtained from a pharmacy.
