Why did the 'prophet' Elisha curse 42 Hebrew children for calling him bald and call two bears to attack and tear them to pieces? (Old Testament Book of Kings)

    because he could. he was the favored of god after all. and what are a few children (some say older youth) when you are god's favorite? We can't have people running around all willy nilly saying bald jokes to prophets can we? no, no. we must have them killed violently to teach them a lesson. well the 42 probably got the point. But for me, I just see it as another one of those crazy mean violent actions of god of the old testament. mean, hateful and spiteful. if elisha was scared and wanted to get out of the situation why didn't he just have god whisk him away? or why didn't he curse the kids with their own baldness. because this way gave him so much more vengence.
