Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer recently signed into law the nation's toughest illegal immigration enforcement bill, requiring local police officers to make a reasonable attempt to determine the immigration status of those suspected of being illegal immigrants. Are you for or against it? You can also VOTE in the poll on this topic.
I feel a bit of both. I can see that illegal immigration is a big problem in Arizona, and they should be proactive about it. The problem comes in where police are allowed to demand that you show proof of citizenship (which they're not supposed to do to citizens) and let's be realistic, the police are going to be going after Hispanic people with this thing (you really think they're going to ask some Caucasian people for their ID?). It's basically allowing racial profiling.

So you really believe police officers will abuse their authority as a matter of course? I'd trust an individual cop long before I trusted ANY congressman to do HIS job properly. Hell, they ADMIT they can't be bothered reading the bills they sign!

I have no problem showing my ID to any police officer who thinks they need to see it. And have had to many times. I trust that the cops will ask for ID anytime they pull someone over or are called to a house disturbance. As they should ask anyone.
