Broken heart has been interpreted as the physical manifestation of living 'without a heart', that is, w/o adequate attention to emotion/feelings. It's been argued that contemporary life and the crazy priorities we set ourselves to earn the daily bread and butter require us to steel ourselves against our higher selves with often fatal consequences in the form of heart attack/stroke.

I think many women and men grow despondent and heart-broken over the commercialization of sex, which certainly kills intimacy http://www.askbiblitz.com/nosex.php.

And it's not uncommon for those married happily for many years to die within a few days and even hours of one another.

But generally speaking, a truly loving heart, one that has truly and fully loved another, will honor the beloved and the experience by seeking fairly soon a new love with whom to recreate the same happiness.
