A popular claim made by our enemies is that we are not Christians because we believe in a “different Jesus” than the one in whom they believe.

In examining this claim, it seems that the place to start is to establish the identity of “our” Jesus.

“Our” Jesus was born approximately two thousand years ago to a woman named Mary who was a virgin at the time.  His father was not Mary's husband, Joseph.  His father is none other than God, our eternal Heavenly Father.  All that is known of his childhood and youth is a record of one incident when he was twelve years old, when he stayed behind at the Temple, and his parents went on, not realizing immediately that he wasn't with them.  Luke 2:42-50 http://scriptures.lds.org/en/luke/2/42-50#42

At the age of approximately thirty years, “our” Jesus began a ministry during which he performed many miracles and taught many important things, much of which are recorded in the New Testament.  Approximately three years later, he was brought to trial on false charges, tortured, and put to death.  In the course of suffering this torture and death, he paid the price for all of Mankind's sins, making it possible for us to repent and be forgiven of them.  Three days later, he was resurrected, paving the way for all of us to eventually overcome death as well.

There are many other criteria beyond which I have listed, that identify the person that we know as Jesus.

“Our” Jesus is the Jesus identified in the Bible.  If this is a “different” Jesus than yours, then it is you who have the wrong Jesus.

To quote from the concluding paragraph of the first of two documents linked to below:

»   Another Jesus? There is no salvation in any
»   other Jesus than the one clearly taught in the
»   above Biblical references. This is the Jesus that
»   we, as Latter-day Saints, believe in. Latter-day
»   Saints agree with Paul in Galatians. If someone
»   teaches a Jesus who saves a sinner without his
»   doing the will of his Father which is in heaven
»   (Matt. 7:21), a Jesus who requires no righteousness,
»   no sacrifice, and no baptism for the remission of
»   our sins, a Jesus who is not now a resurrected
»   being, possessing a glorious physical, tangible body,
»   a Jesus who does not appear today to men and
»   women, a Jesus who will not send mighty angels to
»   the earth, a Jesus who will not open the heavens for
»   his children today as he did anciently, then truly the
»   preacher of this false Christ should be “accursed.”

    • The historical Jesus seems to be the same Jesus that both Mormons and Christains talk about... but you have to dig a bit deeper to understand the differences. It is sort of like a Christian and Mormon belief in who Joseph Smith was. We both believe he existed and was instrumental in founding the Mormon Religion, ect. But the differences lay beneath all this (or above which ever you want to use).
