People do not understand porn. As the media does in general, it portrays sex acts in an unrealistic manner. This itself would not be such a problem if users of porn, (the average age of first exposure to porn is 11, although this stat is controversial) were not persuaded to believe what they are viewing is true. That women/girls have orgasms over all the rediculous things they are paid pots of money to do. It also ignores the psychological profile of porn stars and porn users. Porn effects the brain chemistry like a powerful drug and for many users, it is only a matter of time until we see addiction. Addicts minimize, rationalize, and justify porn because watching porn normalizes the acts you watch. The only emotions allowed are pain, fear, and frenetic ecstacy. Visit the Shelley Lubbin's website to see the experiences of real porn stars. Visit stats on divorce and discover how many marriages are failing partly because of secret porn use/addiction. Talk to your kids about how they learned about sex - from porn. STD's are rampant amongst our youth because they think oral and anal sex keeps them virgins. These kinds of sex spread STD's even more rapidly. Girls in particular, are performing sex acts, including sex with girls and threesomes, because they think that is what will get the boys, not because it is something they are actually interested in. The psychological fallout is seen by guidance counsellors in schools, everywhere.

Should porn be banned? I think people, particularly men, need to raise their consciousness about the harmful realities of porn. There is an endless growing list of problems that are being caused by porn. People need to take responsibility for their actions, and if those actions cause harm to others, then they need to decide if that is okay or not. I think the social cost of porn by far outweighs any benefit from momentary sexual gratification, but that's just me. Women and people need to be respected for all the attributes they bring to the world in order to make it a better place, not just for their orifices and body parts. The taboo and secrecy of porn use create a brain chemical reaction that is mislabelled as sexual arousal, particularly when it is used in private for the purpose of <a href="http://www.livestrong.com/article/12461-masturbation/" title="masturbation" style="", class="stronglinks" target="_blank" />masturbation</a>. This is very different to being with a real person. We need to learn how to devolop intimacy, which is hard, and porn provides an easy escape from having to deal with the difficulties of a real life relationship. It is too easily used to self-medicate. Do some research. See what you find. Make up your own minds, but don't ignore the down side. It is real, it is painful, it is destroying individual lives and families, and who is getting rich????
