It depends. I have my utility bills and mortgage as direct debits. I mail the payment to one of my credit cards a week or two ahead of due date... the other one I can schedule a transfer within my bank 2 days before it's due. I'm lucky to be in a position to pay them off every month. If I get a one-time invoice (usually small amounts), I pay them right away to avoid forgetting them.
