I would say it's not limited to the GOP. The GOP has legitimate reasons for what they want also. The problem is our society is designed to be competitive, so when people think less selfishly than others, it's hard for them to comprehend the selfish reasons, and vice versa. The truth is almost noone knows all of the aspects that go into every issue. So when you start challenging someone's humane side, of course they are going to get defensive. It's only natural. +3
