What does it feel like to be addicted to cigarettes? What makes someone go "oh I need a cigarette"?

Well as a 12 year smoker I would tell you that its not a picnic. I cough alot etc. but anyway. The main thing that makes me crave a cigarette is having them around. But the weird thing is that when I go to the gas-station I buy them anyway. hmmmm...I guess I really don't know.
