could be vapor lock esp. if you live in an arid climate or extreme swings in temp/humidity happen
i would try to replace the fuel cap first
it could however be the crank or cam sensor
in older cars the ignition advance was controlled by vaccum, theses sensors do this now
if the engine is starting with full advance it would crank fine cold
when it is hot, if the engine cranks slow, i would have the crank sensor replaced first
My 2004 Jeep runs at the right temperature on the open road, but if I get in stop and go traffic or idle the engine temperature soars. Why?

'97 350 new crank,rod,main bearings,timing,gears,plugs,wires now has a runs good but has a burp like as misfire but not all the time.HELP

You're reading I have a 2001 mercedes ML430 won't start unless engine is cold. I was told this might be a crank shaft sensor. Is there another possible reason for this problem and can I replace it myself? Please tell me where it is located in engine. THANK YOU
