I think that back then, nails were used as valuable tools of the hand, like fingers themselves. They would naturally break off before they had the chance to get in the way. It wasn't until later on that people began to take care of them cosmetically.
i have eczema on both hands on my fingers and today my right index finger doesnt have a cuticle,it doesnt hurt my other fingers have cuticle
