Do Christians believe that the Prophet Mohammed has importance, in the same way that Muslims believe that Jesus was an important prophet, although not the son of God?

Mohammed is no different than David Koresh, Buddha, Joseph Smith, Charles Taze Russell, Benny Hinn, or Sun Myung Moon. All of them are false prophets.
