You're reading My son leaves his toys (knights and monsters) all over the floor. He is nine and we have told him four times that if these toys will go away for good. My wife thinks I should walk on them with my cowboy boots to teach him a lesson. Is she right?

So it's okay to lie to them, just not destroy their toys?

Don't twist what I say, it's really quite immature. Lying is a necessary thing sometimes, and can be a useful tool to teach as well as harm.

I think this will only teach them:
1. That its okay to lie.
2. To expect this and there is no punishment.
I just hate to see the can of worms this one could open up....

The idea of lying about it so they don't know you're lying. If they think you've thrown away their toys (after multiple empty threats to), it may get the point across.

They will one day figure out that you lied to them, and that is the only thing they will remember forever and ever. Not the lesson, not the toys. The lie. Lying to a child is NEVER necessary or right.

Lying is just such a risky avenue period. I would still be concerned that they would continue to leave them out anyway since they keep getting them back. I think things would eventually get worse.
Great conversation toy all! Thanks.
