Help answer this question below.

Who are the natural enemies of the English? The French? The Germans? The Scottish? All suggestions welcome!

    I wouldn't say there are any natural enemies to be fair.

    However as for who opposed the English throughout history that depends which part of history you are looking at. Originally it would have been the Romano-Briton/Celtic (inc. Picts etc). Although the level of conflict between the Anglo-Saxons and the 'indigenous' peoples is somewhat debatable.

    Following that it would have probably been the Danes.

    In more recent times England's main rivals were probably France and Spain. England was at war with France on and off for centuries and had fairly big problems with Spain as well. All three were expanding imperialist powers so it was natural they had conflict. Ironically the English's ally against the French at Waterloo was to becomes, in a different form, their great rival of the twentieth century, Prussia.

    Also the Scots, Welsh and the Irish were on and off opponents for many years. That was natural I suppose merely because of geography.

    So it really depends which part of history you are looking at.

    • I think the question is focussed on the last 200 or 300 years up to now and to all future.
      And so I think the British will regard wit an extreme feeling of hatred the Germans as their worst enemies as they do now, do it in the future and they were used to do in the past.
      There is no doubt for me as the British see themselves that the Germans will always be their worst enemies.
      This only can be seen as a natural matter of fact.
      They may have their problems with the Irish or Scottish but the Germans they do hate.
