What resolution should I take pictures in if I want to print them at 8" x 10"?

    This depends on how picky you are about quality. Most serious photographers would accept 300dpi full-color images as "better-than-print" quality for 35mm film. At 8x10, this would be a little over 7 megapixels, or 3000x2400.

    Note that this is not the same as the "1440x720dpi" numbers touted by inkjet manufacturers, who are talking about picoliter droplets, not full, composite colors.

    Most people however, will be perfectly happy with far lower resolution. a noiseless 2-3MP image will blow up to 8x10 beautifully, and an average-quality 5mp image should do so as well.
