In my day, we did not have sneakers - we had animal skins which had been carefully fashioned round the shape of a foot, and then stitched lovingly by my mother. Sometimes she put the name of the animal on them, in fancy stitching - like... Puma.
Then the Birkenstocks family next door disappeared, and suddenly we all got new shoes - I was quite concerned....
