Depression can lead to death. Hospitalization may save the person's life if their suicidal thoughts are that strong and they create a plan for suicide. Therapy and medication can make the symptoms of depression less severe as well as a strong support group of people, like family and friends or a support group for depression. Suicide is the most misunderstood death and the hardest to grieve in my experience. My husband died of suicide 8 years ago. Our daughter was only 5 years old at the time - it was the most difficult thing that I've ever had to explain to her. To this day she is still pained by what happened. He had Bipolar Disorder and she is also having to live her life with the disorder as well.
