    At the end of the Spanish American War we acquired them from Spain in the Treaty of Paris. We also acquired the Philippians in that treaty. The US also ended the insurrection and expelled the Spanish from Cuba and granted it independence in 1902.

    • And what a mistake that was... Look at Cuba now - a commie hell hole that nearly succeeded in wiping america in the 60's when the Russians placed nukes there :(
