I have Baptist friends who get Temple recomends from Temple workers in the DC temple and they go there to see the actual endowment. One guy ( a gov't employee taped the whole thing.

It happens all the time. Jeepy

    • What are you talking about? I am Baptist and I don't even know what a Temple recommend is. We have no DC temple. We don't even use the word "Temple". WE have the southern Baptist Convention, but they do not tell us what to do, each church is self governed.

    • There is a baptist church that takes in ex-mormons.They do this as an education tool to save people from mormonism. I don't necessarilly agree with it.

    • So, what is a Temple recommend?

    • So there's no Washington D.C. LDS Temple? Well you might want to tell them that:

    • >So, what is a Temple recommend?<
      .
Well, well, well a Baptist who doesn't know about Mormonism . . . kind of shoots all those LDS myths about Baptist Preachers preaching against Mormonism from the pulpit a black eye doesn't it?

Here you go - use this link to get up to speed on LDS Temple Recommends:

    • IT: A coded card that contains that allows the member to enter the Temple. It must have changed since I last went so ask a young member. They are secretive and will probably use the opportunity to ask you to listen to the discussions.

And you are right most people have never heard of the Church.

    • They changed the cards, I think, 2 or 3 years ago because the old style card was being counterfeited among other things. Apparently the new ones are bar-coded. Here's the link to a circa 2007 thread on the subject:

    • Oh so you knew you rascal. If the people are so holy why do they give you keys to the lockers?

    • pleased to meet you. You should have been a fly on the wall when the Stake President asked me those questions, and when the Patriarch tried to sell me Amway before he would give me the blessing. I wanted to go to the Temple before the missionary who baptised me went home, but this man thought I was a sex fiend. The only woman I have been a fiend with for 35 years has been the one I married. I am the only man she ever kissed. I spoke to a former Bishop ands he told me that he had a similar experience. Study that

You might find it amusing that the Amway/Quixtar has been identified as a Mind Control Cult and oit's so big and so common that Steven Hassan did the BITE analysis himself! Here's the link:

In fact, I'm going to have to post new question . . .

    • Be glad to assist in any way I can

    • I didn't say there is no DC LDS Temple, I thought jack was talking about a Baptist temple, Smart aleck. I have never in all of my baptist years heard any preacher talk about the Mormons or any other cult or denomination. We don't preach or talk about what others believe. We teach about what we believe, that is more important.

    • Here's the link to the new question I've just posted on Amway/Quixtar: http://www.answerbag.com/q_view/1360567
      .
FYI, when I did a video search for the question I was flooded with videos of people trying to get people OUT of Amway INTO their MLM scheme. Apparently I've just tumbled into a world that was there all along that I didn't know about - just like Alice!

    • .
Oh, and when you get a chance I would dearly love to get your "take" on the BITE analysis that another former Member did on the LDS Church - as in, do you agree with his assessment?
      .
      Here's the link: http://www.answerbag.com/a_view/5959687
      .
I've already gotten the "take" of an active member who didn't seem to think much of it.

    • Randoley, there is a myth among LDS that all Baptists do is sit around and think up new ways to bash Mormons and that Baptist Ministers rail against Mormonism regularly from the pulpit.
      .
No amount of dialog will convince some LDS otherwise.
      .
But as BYU Professor and Mormon Folklore expert William A. Wilson has noted, Mormonism is built as much on folklore as it is LDS Scripture.
      .
And of course I was indeed being a mischievous snark in my LDS Temple post. Sorry man, it's my nature!
      .
      ;-)

    • I have heard people tell the same Pioneer stories about their families all over the world, and seeing ghosties thanking them for doing their temple work. It's like the Girl with the sweater in the cemetery or Eddie Murphy in the elevator sending the flowers.

My dear old drunk daddy told me "Believe half of what you see and nothing of what you hear."

      >My dear old drunk daddy told me "Believe half of what you see and nothing of what you hear."<
      .
LOL. I'm thinking that he said that when he was sober because that's actually not bad advice!

    • Jack, the locks serve two purposes: helps us remember which locker is ours, and to keep honest people honest.

    • You should be able to trust people at the temple you'd think

    • By the way dad said never trust a man who wears his religion on his sleeve.

      tony b

      by tony b on March 20th, 2009

    • We "wear our religion" out of view of anyone except those who are obsessed with our underwear (what would Freud say about such a fixation?).

      laie_techie

      by laie_techie on March 21st, 2009

    • .
Actually Freud would say that repressing the truth only augments interest in it.
      .
As I've said before if the LDS Chuch would drop the secret Nauvoo Temple Rites (which were born out of Joseph Smith's need to hide his polygamous activities) and revert to the public Kirtland Rites (including losing the Temple Garments) as the RLDS did it would eliminate the unhealthy fixation of the public on these Mormon secrets.
      .
      Easy solution.
      .
AND, I would add that I really don't see the fixation of the "Gentiles" on Mormon Secrets as their fault. Joseph Smith created the mess via his bad, irrational behavior and it's easily resolved via rational behavior.

    • I was specifically referring to certain people's fixation on LdS underwear.

Yes, exactly. The two are related as you know. You can't understand one without understanding the other.

    • Absolutely! I can sense that you now have a New Lease On Life. That's awesome.

    • Temple workers donĀ“t have access to blank recommends. Since 1) only bishops are issued blank temple recommends (not even a stake president gets blanks), 2)they must be signed by both a bishop (or counselor) and stake president (or counselor), 3) then activated, which only a stake president or stake clerk can do, 4)and finally have its bar code verified upon entering the temple, I would have to surmise that either you or your baptist friends are lying about entering the DC temple.

by bigbadcary on September 4th, 2010

    • Big Bad Cary, the barcodes on the temple recommend are a relatively recent addition. And activating the recommends came about at the same time as the barcode. You are correct that the book of blank recommends is in the possession of the bishopric; even a stake president must have his own bishop sign it.
