After 200+ shots, my .17HMR rifle seems to make a louder bang. Is this possible? I have cleaned it regularly and have used the same ammunition throughout.

No. If you have used the same brand of ammo and have not altered the rifle in any way, the report (noise made when fired) of the weapon should be within a narrow band of decibels.

    Some possibilities:

    - You may have become more sensitive to the sound if you haven't shot it for a while and then came back to it.
    - Your hearing protection (you ARE using it, right?!) may be losing effectiveness or you are not using it properly.
    - You are shooting in a more enclosed space (different rifle range booth, for example) or a place where the terrain/building layout reflects more noise back to you.

A popular modification to many rifles is a muzzle brake, designed to reduce muzzle climb when shooting. A brake WILL make the report sound louder to the shooter as the brake deflects gases and noise that would normally go away from the shooter to a plane that is parallel to the shooter, thus exposing him to twin expanding wavefronts of sound.
