One of the arguments for using safety belts is if you are seriously injured in an accident. The first person on the scene will call for paramedics who will risk their lives getting to you. Their lives are at risk if they make a mistake and crash or if someone else makes the mistake and hits the emergency vehicle.

Paramedics made the decision when they took that profession that they will have to risk their own lives sometimes. No one is forcing them to be 'heros'.
