Do african americans take offense to african american month? I mean its like us white people are trying to make up for hundreds of years of slavery. Jews were also oppressed but we do not have a month for them. What are your thoughts on this?

I'm african american and I dont take offense. It's only for us (african americans) to be aware of all that we have accomplished. I think people forget that Jewish people are white. People seperate as a race but they belong to the white race and yes they were also oppressed.

    • I come from an irish american background where working in the coal mines was the same as slavery. the company owned the housing, the store where they bought their food, on credit, and every day their indeptedness increased to the point they couldn't leave. St patricks day is not their day. I guess my point is that blacks were not the only ones suffering at the hands of the great american machine. Oh and by the way Jewish people are olive skinned. Blacks were enslaved but the Jews were were extermenated, burried in mass graves, had their bodies rendered into soap, had torturious experiments performed on them and you say "people forget that Jewish people are white". So I take it that anyone with lighter skin than you is white. Think about what you say so you don't look stupid.

    • I truly have nothing against Blacks but at the same time I am having a real problem with your answer. Native Americans Have more right to have their heritage celebrated than anyone and it should be a manditory study in schools in the same way Black heritage is. Native Americans Had their land stolen from them, their main food source nearly wiped out, They were given lands to live on only to have it pulled out from under them because the white man wanted it. They had promise after promise broken. Like the Jew you seem to feel is just another white person, they faced annihilation, while at the same time in history blacks increased in numbers
