Help answer this question below.

I rearended someone who had to abruptly stop, and I was cited for following too close. Can I fight this?

    The only way to fight it is to appear in court, admit that you were negligent, and ask for consideration and/or leiniancy as it regards to the ticket. The worst thing you can do is make excuses or try to make it appear as if it was not your fault. In the eyes of most traffic court judges you are at fault if you rear end someone. They will say that you were either following too closely or you were driving too fast.

    Ask the judge if he would be willing to allow you to pay the fines and to attend defensive driving school (if it is offered in your particular state) and remain on probation for 6 months to a year. If your request is denied, you can appeal the ruling. Once you get to the appeals process, it is very likely that you will be granted some other form of punishment other than another bad mark on your driving record.
