Question

When my car is in reverse and I apply the brakes it makes a horrible squeak-like noise. It does not always happen and it seems to happen more often when it is damp outside. Should I be concerned?

If your brakes are old and they squeak, you are in trouble, that is the sound of metal on metal and you will need a whole lot more than the pads replaced. However since it only does it in reverse and occurs more often when damp there is a possibility they just need to be adjusted or tightened, OR you simply need to rotate your tires. The uneven wear due to forward and backward motion can cause the squeak. I recommend rotating your tires every time you get an oil change.
