The Quran does not permit a man to beat his wife if she is insubordinate.

    • Something I didn't see at first. LilChinaBoot's answer deals with lewdness, not insubordination. You're right in this case.

    • Disloyalty and insubordination are the same time - in both cases, she'll be beaten.

    • Because of the wording I can kind of see this, but who decides when insubordination is non-inclusive of lewdness?

    • quran is clear..if your wife does not obey you. You are to follow a list of procribed solutions. First you are to call in a male mediator from her family to "talk sense into her" and try to solve the problem that way..if that doesnt work 2) the husband is told to bann the wife from his bed..if that doesnt work..3) he is told to beat his wife until she repents for not obeying.
These rules are clearly speeled out in islam. It is however considered haraam for a man to stike his wife in the face.

    • Just one text of a multitude of similar ones:

"When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets: then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall not pity her." (Deuteronomy 25:11-12)

    • oh stop theby..either you agree 100% with your religion or your dont...bashing the old testament (that islam is also suppose to hold as scripture) does not do islam any good..address the questions as they pertain to islam..your religion is yours to choose..if you agree that it is okay to beat your wife if she disobeys her husband that is fine..many cultures feel the same way...just state what YOU believe and leave others to believe what they choose
